Cohen, Robert S. (1923-2017)
The Robert S. Cohen collection consists of Cohen’s files regarding his work with various organizations and individuals.  These files contain various documents related to Cohen’s career as a scientist, historian, author, editor, and educator; the material in the files usually consists of a combination of correspondence, manuscripts, and printed items, with other material occasionally included.  The collection also includes some material related to Cohen’s political beliefs and activism.

Organizations and publications represented in the files include: Boston Studies in the Philosophy of Science; the Boston Colloquium for the Philosophy of Science; Studies in the History of Modern Science; Soviet and East-European Philosophical Studies; Current Soviet Studies in the Philosophy of Science; Boston University; AIMS; and the Vienna Circle.  The Boston Studies material includes manuscripts for incomplete and/or unpublished volumes.

Individuals represented in the files include Boris G. Kuznetsov, Albert Einstein, Rudolf Carnap, Herbert Feigl, Paul Feyerabend, and Otto Neurath.  Also present is extensive correspondence between Cohen and Adolf Grünbaum.

In addition to these files, Cohen maintained a large collection of general correspondence files.  These files contain numerous letters, including several from notable individuals.  These include Bettina Aptheker, Shlomo Avineri, Etienne Balibar, Gustav Bergmann, Leonard Boudin, Remi Brague, Percy Williams Bridgeman, Norman O. Hempel, Emily Hiestand, Sidney Hook, Helga Hörz, Roman Ingarden, Hans Jonas, Imre Lakatos, Corliss Lamont, Alasdair MacIntyre, Joseph Margolis, Lynn Margulis, Jacques Merleau-Ponty, Marvin Minsky, Ernest Nagel, Frances Fox Piven, Michael Polanyi, Karl Popper, Ilya Prigogine, Hilary Putnam, Darko Suvin, Max Wartofsky, John Archibald Wheeler, Norbert Wiener, Elie Wiesel, and many others.
