The Karl Fortess collection includes audio materials, manuscripts, printed materials, and correspondence.
Audio materials in the collection date from 1963 to 1972 and include cassette tapes of interviews conducted with seventy-nine American painters, sculptors, and graphic artists as a part of the Boston University School of Visual Arts Oral History Project. Also included in the collection are compact disk copies of the interviews transferred from the original reel-to-reel tapes.
Manuscripts in the collection date from 1973 to 2005 and include Fortess’ “List of Tapes with Brief Explanation” and a transcript of Fortess’ “Overview of Audio Project.”
Printed material in the collection includes a 1969 copy of the Boston University Alumni News publication.
Correspondence in the collection dates from 1965 to 1972 and includes professional letters sent to and from Fortess regarding the Oral History Project.
