Adams, Samuel A. (1933-1988)

The Samuel A. Adams collection primarily consists of transcripts and supporting documents regarding the suit Gen. William Westmoreland brought against Adams, CBS and others. These papers include witness and source files, trial transcripts, trial exhibits, joint exhibits, official documents, chronologies prepared by Adams, Adams’ notes, and CBS press releases and public relations. Other Vietnam-related papers include material regarding a study on the controversy over military munitions transported through the Cambodian port of Sihanoukville, general research material (printed items), interviews with various figures, studies on the Vietnam War by various authors, and papers regarding Renata Adler’s New Yorker article about Adams and his subsequent libel suit against her. The collection also includes several drafts of Adams’ book Who the Hell are We Fighting Out There?, published posthumously as War of Numbers (Steerforth Press, 1994), as well as personal photographs, military records, and correspondence.
