The Leonard and Margaret Boden Collection primarily consists of photographs of portraits painted by the Bodens. There are hundreds of photographs present, of over two hundred subjects. In each case, there are multiple photos of each subject in the collection. Also present are photographs of the Bodens and their studio; these photos include Leonard and Margaret Boden with Pope Pius XII and Queen Elizabeth II, among others.
The portrait subjects that appear in the photographs include the entire British royal family, including Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Philip, Prince Charles, and Princess Mary; Pope Pius XII; Pope John Paul II; Princess Chula Chakrabongse of Thailand; actor Alastair Sim, operatic tenor and director Tito Gobbi; and Boris Christoff portraying various roles from Mussorgsky's opera Boris Godunov. In addition, the collection includes many photographs of British nobles, academics, judges, and other notables.
Other items in the collection includes some correspondence, including letters from Bernardine Paganuzzi, Tito Gobbi, Judi Dench, and Trevor Nunn; a short biography and a resume for Leonard Boden; lists of portraits by Leonard and Margaret Boden, which were exhibited at the Royal Society of Portrait Painters, the Pastel Society, Society of Women Artists, United Society of Artists, and the National Society of Artists between the 1949 and 2002; and exhibit catalogs and other printed matter promoting shows featuring the art of the Bodens.
