Scope:
The John Bowen collection consists of manuscripts and correspondence.
Manuscripts by Bowen consist of drafts, notes, inserts, and corrections regarding his play After the Rain (1960). Also present are reviews and programs (1966-1969), three photographs from a Dutch production, and a French adaptation of the play by Michel Arnaud.
Correspondence in the collection consists of over two hundred letters, mostly regarding After the Rain, and dating from 1959 to 1968. There are several letters from Margaret Ramsay (Bowen's agent) and Helen Jacobson (a producer). Also present are letters from Brian Bailey, Frith Banbury, Ronald Bryden, Donald Erickson, Stephen Joseph, Alexander Knox, Vivian Matalon, Herman Shumlin, and others.
