Scope:
The Mary Ellen Chase collection primarily consists of manuscript material related to two late-career novels: A Journey to Boston (Norton, 1965) and The Story of Lighthouses (Norton, 1965). A Journey to Boston consists of four holograph notebooks and a typescript carbon draft. Similarly, The Story of Lighthouses consists of two holograph notebooks and a typescript carbon draft. Also present are twenty-two pieces of correspondence.
Ms. Chase is represented in the book collection by two titles: Windswept, a novel (Macmillan, 1941); and Sailing the Seven Seas, a juvenile novel (Houghton, 1958).
