Dahl, Francis (1907-1973)

The Francis Dahl collection consists of subject files, arranged by Dahl, containing various documents depending on the topic of the file.  These documents include cartoon strips and other drawings by Dahl; research material; printed material; and memorabilia.

The dates of composition for the cartoon strips (including originals, discards, and duplicates) in the collection date from the 1920s to 1972.

Printed material in the files includes clippings from various publications, including The Saturday Evening Post and The Boston Herald-Traveler, as well as complete issues of The Atlantic, Time, The Harvard Lampoon, American Forests, and Boston Magazine.  The collection also includes copies of The Sportsman magazine from the 1920s and 1930s.

Memorabilia in the files includes various awards, as well as material from an exhibit of Dahl's work at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.

Other material in the collection includes a scrapbook of early strips by Dahl, research material, and four metal printing plates.
