Deal, Borden (1922-1985)

The Borden Deal collection consists of manuscripts, correspondence, artwork, printed material, and other items.

Manuscripts by Deal in the collection include drafts of The Tobacco Men (based on notes by Theodore Dreiser; Holt, 1965); A Long Way to Go (Doubleday, 1965);  ... The Other Room (Doubleday, 1974); Bluegrass (Doubleday, 1976); There Were also Strangers (New Horizon Press, 1985); and other works of fiction, non-fiction, and drama.

Correspondence in the collection includes personal and professional letters.  Notable correspondents include Boris Pasternak, Elia Kazan, Dick Powell, and Robert Crichton.

Artwork in the collection consists of sculptures by Sara Mayfield in the likenesses of Borden and Babs Deal (1963).

Printed material includes articles by Deal published in Comment, Good Housekeeping, Women's Day, The Toronto Star, Playboy, Southwest Review, and other periodicals.

Other material in the collection includes the transcript of an oral history interview with Deal, as well as copies of the original recordings; photographs, research material, professional material, memorabilia, financial material, and journals.
