Gardner, Nancy Bruff (1909-2009)
Scope:
The Nancy Bruff Gardner collection includes manuscripts, correspondence, personal memorabilia, printed materials, and other items.

The collection includes manuscripts for The Country Club (Bartholomew House, 1969) and Very Short Poems Vol. I and II. Also present are manuscripts for short works from Gardner's youth (1924-1935) and Laughing Liar (a play), as well as miscellaneous notes and drafts of poems.

Correspondence collected between 1946 and 1964 is primarily literary. Notables include Samuel H. Post (of Bartholomew House), Anya Seton, and Mina Lewiton. Other letters are addressed to R.H. Macy, Co. Saks Fifth Avenue, and a certain Dr. Oglivie.

The collection’s personal memorabilia includes obituaries of Gardner’s parents, her marriage announcement, and biographical information.

Printed materials in the collection consist of a published poem and story, clippings, reviews, mailings, and various publicity items. A condensation of The Manatee is also present, along with a scrapbook in which Gardner collected relevant reviews.

Miscellaneous items include photographs of Gardner (1940-60s) and Kathy E. Mengle’s "An Analysis of the Published Works of Nancy Bruff Gardner."
