Godden, Jon (1906-1984)
Scope:
The Jon Godden collection consists of the manuscripts for her novels The Peacock (Knopf, 1950); The City and the Wave (Knopf, 1954); Mrs. Panopoulis (Knopf, 1959); Told in Winter (Chatto and Windus, 1961); In the Sun (Knopf, 1965); Ahmed and the Old Lady (Knopf, 1976); In Her Garden (Knopf, 1981); and five stories published in Mercy, Pity, Peace, and Love: Stories (Morrow, 1989).

Much of the manuscript material includes explanatory notes from Jon Godden’s sister Rumer Godden. Other manuscripts in the collection include several “writing exercises” – brief, spontaneous pieces by Godden; and five notebooks with various notes, sketches, and ideas.

Also present in the collection are some miscellaneous letters and printed items, as well as the Waterman pen with which Godden always wrote.
