Grebanier, Bernard (1903-1977)
Scope:
The Bernard Grebanier collection includes manuscripts and printed materials.

The collection includes manuscripts for many of Grebanier’s critical works, such as Introduction to Imaginative Literature, The Heart of Hamlet, The Truth About Shylock, The Great Shakespeare Forgery, The Enjoyment of Literature, and Then Came Each Actor. Additional manuscripts, often collected in notebooks, include "The Twelfth Disciple" and "Abandoned Vineyard" (published together in The Other Love), as well as "Careggi, April 8, 1492" and "Mariana in the North." Manuscripts frequently display profuse holograph corrections.

Other items include newspaper clippings, pamphlets, playbills (including two for his version of The Merchant of Venice), and a flier announcing the publication of Fauns, Satyrs, and a Few Sages. A Xeroxed speech titled "Great Teachers of the Time" and reviews by Grebanier (collected with related correspondence) constitute additional printed material.

A verse translation of The Phaedra of Jean Racine and a record (33 1/3 LP) titled "Living Shakespeare" are present, as well.
