Henrey, Mrs. Robert (1906-2004)
The Mrs. Robert (Madeleine) Henrey collection includes manuscripts, correspondence, photographs, artwork, and other materials.

Manuscripts in the collection—published by J.M. Dent and Sons, Ltd. unless noted—include A Journey to Gibraltar (under pseud. Robert Henrey, 1943), The King of Brentford (under Robert Henrey, P. Davies, 1946), Mistress of Myself (1959),  A Girl at Twenty: Six Months in the Life of Young Madeleine (1974), and The Golden Visit (1979).

Collected correspondence includes letters from Henrey to her husband during 1963 and 1964; letters with researches, editors, publishers and Phyllis Ginger (illustrator) regarding Girl at Twenty; and a letter from a reader of Green Leaves is present, as well.

Photographs in the collection include black and white snapshots and portraits of Henry and a color transparency of Henry with Jenny Bell. Other photos document various travels, Henrey’s residences, and Henry’s son Bobby during his role in The Wonder Kid. Many photographs are accompanied by descriptions.

Collected artwork consists of an Autori drawing of Henrey and a signed Phyllis Ginger watercolor for the Girl at Twenty dust jacket (inscribed to Boston University).

Other materials in the collection pertain to Green Leaves, a book about Henry’s husband’s family. Items include rough notes, related correspondence, memorabilia, photographs, and research.
