Herrmann, Edward (1943-2014)
The Edward Herrmann collection includes manuscripts, photographs, correspondence, professional material, printed material, personal memorabilia, and other material.

Manuscripts in the collection primarily consist of scripts and teleplays by various authors. Manuscripts for television include Eleanor and Franklin (1975); St. Elsewhere (1986); History's Lost and Found (1999-2000); Ultimate Autos (1999-2000); Oz (2000); and Gilmore Girls (2000-2007). Screenplays include Death Valley (1981); Annie (1982); The Lost Boys (1987); Walking Across Egypt (1998); and The Aviator (2002). Voiceover and audiobook scripts include John Adams by David McCullough (2001); Liberty! The American Revolution (1997); The Nazis: A Warning from History (1998); and The Ten Commandments (2006). Commercial scripts include a collection of Dodge commercials (1992-2001) and other various advertisements. Other manuscripts include scripts for several stage plays, a critical review of The Royal Shakespeare Co. in Brooklyn, with personal note, and academic essays from Bucknell University.

Photographs in the collection are mostly production stills, on-set candids, and prints of Herrmann from various theatre, film, and television appearances. Projects include The New York Shakespeare Festival (1988); Gilmore Girls (2000); The Cat's Meow (2001); and The Pleasure of Your Company (2006). Notable individuals include Martin Sheen, Kirsten Dunst, Eddie Izzard, Blythe Danner, Mary-Louise Parker, and Alexis Bledel. Also present are numerous personal prints with members of Herrmann's family, particularly a significant number of images from Bucknell University.

Correspondence in the collection includes professional and personal letters, fan mail, and postcards. The letters date from 1967 to 2010. Notable correspondents include Peter and Allison Rockefeller, Meryl Streep, Tony Danza, Henry Winkler, Martin Scorsese, Neil Simon, Dana Reeve (wife of Christopher), Carol Baum, and many others.

Professional materials in the collection dates from 1965 to 2010 and includes call sheets and shooting schedules for numerous television projects, various faxes, financial records, and press kits.

Printed material includes large compilations of magazine and newspaper clippings dated from 1963 to 2002, playbills, programs, flyers, emails and various other printouts and photocopies.  

Personal memorabilia in the collection includes a Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Play (1976), Herrmann’s Primetime Emmy Award nominations (1976 and 1977), as well as a scrapbook of Herrmann as Franklin Roosevelt in Eleanor and Franklin (1976) that includes a personal inscription from Herrmann on the inside cover. Additional material includes various sketches, television props from Gilmore Girls, multiple award show tickets, among other items.

Other material in the collection includes cassettes, VHS, and DVD recordings of Herrmann’s numerous performances ranging from 1976 to 2007, as well as CD recordings for audiobook, film, and television narrations. Additional items include financial material, invitations, and drawings.
