The collection's printed materials consist of proofs for The Vatican's Women and The Viennese. Clippings, pamphlets, and magazines are present, as well, as are various items regarding the papal election.

Professional materials in the collection are constituted by subject files, maintained between 1972 and 2000. Arranged alphabetically, the subject files include clippings, notes, royalty statements, book covers, web articles, correspondence, and manuscripts.

The collection's research materials are arranged under various file headings, such as "Assorted Pope Clips," "Open City Rome," "Papabili," and "Vienna Coffee House." Also included are numerous untitled note cards.

Collected legal materials concern Hofmann's relationship with Georges Borchardt, his agent.

Hofmann's financial materials are documented extensively between 1967 and 2000. Items include annual income tax files; completed documents; professional expense vouchers; assorted IRS materials; and more.
