Collected novel manuscripts include The Circle of Sand, Pageant Faded, and The Giving of Mary Cate.

Collected teleplays include Hour of Truth and The Dream.

Collected television scripts include "A Star Fell"; "King Solomon of Kentucky"; "Banderillero"; "What Do You Know about Luther Bradford?"; "The Eagle is Forgotten"; and "Law of the Fugitive."

Correspondence in the collection (1942-68) is frequently business related. Notables include William F. Buckley, Howard B. Gotlieb, Walter Kohner, George Murphy, Josephine Rogers, Robert Wise, Robert M. Amussen, Arthur Freed, Christophe Knopf, Arthur Lubin, Mary C. McCall, Nate Monaster, Allan Sherman, Walter Kohner, and Willis Kingsley Wing, among others.

The collection's printed materials include newsclippings, reviews, programs, playbills, brochures, and publications. Of particular interest are materials regarding Star!; an invitation to attend the premiere of Blowing Wild; and a program for the Writers Annual Awards Show (1966), collected with two photographs. A printed edition of Circle of Sand is present, as well.

Professional materials consist of call-sheets filed under "Mod Squad," "Safe Journey," "Abbot & Costello in The Mummy," and "It Takes a Thief."

Legal materials in the collection include contracts that Karlan signed with Four Star Films, Inc. and Hal Roach studios for Hour of Truth and The Dream, respectively.

Among a number of collected photographs, those capturing Karlan's television appearances with Jack Parr and Regis Philbin may be of particular interest.
