Manuscripts by Martin in the collection include drafts of his novels The Beginning of Sorrows (Weidenfeld & Nicolson, 1987); Lie to Me (Random House, 1990); Bring Me Children (Random House, 1992); Pelikan (Simon & Schuster, 1999); Crazy Love (Simon & Schuster, 2002); Facing Rushmore (Simon and Schuster, 2005); and several unpublished novels.

Correspondence in the collection consists of letters to and from Martin, dating from 1986 to 1999.

Printed material in the collection includes various newspapers, magazines, and miscellaneous items. Also present are several proofs for Lie to Me.

Subject files in the collection consist of files arranged into topics by Martin and composed of various kinds of material, including printed items, letters, manuscripts, photographs, and financial material. Topics include: Tethered (Henry Hold, 1979); The Crying Heart Tattoo (Henry Holt, 1982); Final Harbor (Henry Holt, 1984); The Beginning of Sorrows; Lie to Me; Bring Me Children; and Pelikan.
