Meynell, Laurence (1899-1993)
Scope:
The Laurence Meynell collection primarily consists of manuscripts by Meynell for various books, articles, poems, and notes. Drafts of books by Meynell include The Curious Crime of Miss Julia Blossom (Macmillan, 1970); The Shelter (R. Hale, 1970); Troy Trotter and the Kitten (Kaye and Ward, 1970); and The End of the Long Hot Summer (R. Hale, 1972). Also present is Meynell's draft of the short story "The Small Woman on the Landing," published in the anthology Lost in a Mystery (Hamish Hamilton, 1970); his draft of an address delivered by Meynell on the occasion of a memorial service to C. S. Forester at St. Martin's in the Fields (1966), a stage play titled The Governors; and other items. The collection also includes a photograph of Meynell, as well as material regarding The Johnson Society of London at the time when Meynell was its president (1947).
