Scope:
The Philip Nobile collection includes manuscripts, correspondence, and printed materials.

Manuscripts in the collection include Nobile’s book Intellectual Skywriting: Literary Politics and the New York Review of Books (Charter House, 1974); his articles “How the New York Times Became Second Banana,” and “What is the New Impotence and Who’s Got It” from Esquire magazine, dated 1974 and 1972 respectively; and miscellaneous notes.

Correspondence in the collection is extensive, and includes professional and business correspondence pertaining to his books Favorite Movies and Intellectual Skywriting. Notable correspondents include John McLaughlin, Bill Moyers, Thomas Berger, Jay Cocks, Dwight MacDonald, Parker Tyler, and Norman Mailer. Material is dated between 1971 and 1975.

Printed materials in the collection include book reviews and research items for Intellectual Skywriting, items used as research for Nobile’s “Impotence” article, and other articles and reviews written by Nobile.
