The Elmar Oliveira collection includes correspondence, personal memorabilia, printed materials, professional materials, legal materials, audio materials, and photographs.
Correspondence in the collection includes both personal and professional correspondence, including greeting cards and post cards, letters from 1997, professional correspondence from the Westchester Philharmonic in 1999, various letters to Oliveira’s parents from the early 1980’s, emails, and various correspondence from the 2000’s. Notable correspondents include John S. Monagan, Herbert Axelrod, and Livia Sohn. Material is dated between 1965 and 2011, some undated.
Personal memorabilia in the collection includes hundreds of ticket stubs for Oliveira’s performances, performance memorabilia, business cards, performance invitations, advertisement posters, tickets to the Leningrad Philharmonic at the Bolshoi Theatre in 1989, invitations for various receptions, Oliveira’s honorary Doctor of Music Diploma from State University of New York Binghamton from 2002, a program for the funeral of Francais Jacques, a guest artist pass for the Kennedy Center in 2004, and name tags.
Printed materials in the collection are extensive, and include newspaper and photocopied articles, an assortment of stagebills, periodicals, pamphlets, publicity, flyers, and programs, newspaper ads, news releases, music reviews, a Cleveland Institute of Music calendar from 1995-1996, season schedules for certain orchestras, symphonies, and art centers, a Portugal holiday guide, a National Symphony Orchestra Calendar for 2001 and 2002, and a newsletter for the Youngstown Symphony Society from 2004. Material concerns either Oliveira directly or music in general.
Professional materials in the collection include itineraries, a repertoire list for Oliveira, schedules for his Berlin recording sessions in 2000, travel and performance schedules from the late 1980’s, an Avery Fisher Price press release from 1993, promotional fliers and posters, a monthly planner from 2004, Oliveira’s business card for the Nashville Symphony, a subject file for the Yale Gordon strings performance competition of 2009, subject files on Boston University and Boston, subject files for several Chamber Music Northwest Summer Festivals, as well as other various subject files.
Legal materials in the collection include a variety of contracts dated between 1977 and 1988, some undated.
Audio materials in the collection include compact discs titled “The Miracle Makers: Studivori-Guarneri-Oliveira.”
Photographs in the collection include both black and white and color photos of Oliveira and others, including his parents and family. Headshots dated between 1981 and 1983 are included, as well as many other undated headshots.
