Opper, Frederick Burr (1857-1937)
The Frederick Burr Opper collection includes manuscripts, correspondence, printed materials, and photographs.

Manuscripts in the collection include an autobiographical piece by Opper, a list of Opper's daughter Sophia's visits, an excerpt on Opper from Cartoon Cavalcade, and Sophia Opper's My Memories of My Father.  Also included are books illustrated by Opper, including Up-to-Date Stage Conundrums (1903) and The Story of Happy Hooligan (1932).

Correspondence in the collection includes letters and telegrams sent to J.V. Connolly of King Features Syndicate to congratulate Opper. Notable correspondents include Arthur Brisbane, S. Parkes Cadman, Harry Emerson Fosdick, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Walt Disney, and Charles M. Schwab. All material is from 1931.

Other correspondence in the collection includes John Plimpton's correspondence regarding Opper materials, and some family correspondence, all dated between 1950 and 1990.

Printed material in the collection includes cartoon boards by Opper for Happy Hooligan and And Her Name Was Maud dated from 1930 to 1932, each signed in original pen and ink and with blue pencil editing markings. Other printed material is related to the 1931 tribute banquet for Opper to celebrate the 31st anniversary of Happy Hooligan.  Materials include menus and newspaper pieces.

Other printed material in the collection includes the periodicals Just for Fun, Puck, and Happy Hooligan, sheet music for the "Happy Hooligan Characteristic Dance and Two-Step," post cards illustrated by Opper, photocopies and reproductions of Opper's work, publicity materials, biographical materials, and obituaries.

Photographs in the collection include two pictures of Opper, Arthur Brisbane, and others from the 1931 tribute banquet.
