Poggi, Jack (1928-2016)
Scope:
The Jack Poggi collection includes manuscripts, correspondence, personal memorabilia, printed materials, financial materials, audio materials, diaries and journals, and subject files.

Manuscripts in the collection include both published and unpublished works by Poggi, translations, prompt books of plays directed by Poggi with his notes, early writings including an autobiographical sketch from 1948, scripts and notes from Poggi's acting class, notes from classes of Mira Rostova, notes for Theater in America, and Poggi's script for Catching the Tune with penciled changes.

Correspondence in the collection includes both personal and professional correspondence, mostly concerning Poggi’s productions. Material is dated between 1943 and 1985, some undated.

Personal memorabilia in the collection includes copies of the St. Ignatius High School newspaper dated between 1942 and 1946; memorabilia from Sacred Heart Grammar School, St. Ignatius High School, and the University of San Francisco; records of Poggi's service in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952; Poggi's degrees from the University of San Francisco, Harvard University, and Columbia University; appointment books dated between 1962 and 1981; original costume designs for the production of Three Sisters; and a scroll from the Screen Actors Guild from 1985.

Printed material in the collection includes programs of various productions that Poggi directed or acted in, programs from tours of theaters and acting schools around Europe in 1969, articles from The Monologue Shop from 1985, and various other articles and reviews.

Financial material in the collection consists of income tax records dated between 1957 and 1979.

Audio material in the collection includes audio tapes, mostly from productions directed by Poggi.

Diaries and journals in the collection consist of journals dated between 1942 and 1946.

Subject files in the collection include materials on the Actors Alliance and Poggi’s purchase of property in Sea Cliff, New York.
