The Siegfried Sassoon collection primarily consists of correspondence. These items are mainly letters from Sassoon to various individuals, dating from 1918 to 1965. The individuals include Arthur Bryant, Brian Gardner, Robert Nichols, C. K. Ogden, Derek Parker, James Burton Pond, and Arthur Thrush. Especially notable are six letters from Sassoon to writer Robert Graves (1930, 1933, 1955).
Correspondence to Sassoon from others includes letters from Takeshi Saito (three letters, 1923, 1933, 1955); Chalres Tryon (one letter, 1957); and Orlo William (seven letters, 1946-1947).
Other material in the collection includes Sassoon's handwritten manuscript of his poem “Because the Duke of York is Duke of York…” (1926); a photograph of an oil painting of Sassoon by Glyn Philpot (1971), inscribed "For John Galsworthy from Siegfried Sassoon"; a photograph of another painting of Sassoon; and a watercolor profile of Sassoon, labeled Nash's Magazine .
