Shannon, William V. (1927-1988)

The William Shannon collection includes manuscripts, correspondence, subject files, and other items.

Manuscripts in the collection consist of drafts of Shannon's books, as well as book-length manuscripts by other authors.

Correspondence in the collection has been arranged into subject areas by Shannon. Subjects include Ireland (1977-1987); letters from publishers and editors; Boston Globe columns (1982-1987); New York Times reader letters and replies; general 1980s files; alphabetical correspondence files; family correspondence; and invitations.

Subject files, arranged by Shannon, make up the bulk of the collection. They are organized by subject, and partly alphabetized. Topics include: Boston University courses: New York Times editorials: "Irish Notes"; speeches; Presidents; Shannon's Irish Ambassadorship, and New York Post columns, 1958-1960.

Other items in the collection include several diaries kept by Shannon; diplomas and other framed documents; and scrapbooks of newspaper clippings, magazine articles, and photographs (early 1950s - early 1980s).
