Smith, Vian (1948-1971)
Scope:
The Vian Smith collection consists of manuscripts, printed material, and correspondence.

Manuscripts in the collection include drafts of Smith's plays False Witness and Saturday Religion, as well as some short pieces. The collection also contains one handwritten journal dated 1965.  

The bulk of the material in the collection consists of printed material, most of which are publisher’s proofs, copies of Smith’s novels, and his teleplays and stage plays.  The novels First Thunder (1965), Sunday Morning on the Hill, and The Wind Blows Free (1968) are represented. The collection also contains several articles of "Vian Smith’s Page of the Week" dating from 1962 to 1963.

The collection also contains some professional and personal letters. Most of these are between Smith and publishers, editors, and agents regarding contracts and reader reports. There is also some personal correspondence between Smith and his grandmother and other various fan-mail.

In Addition, the archive contains several photographs of Smith from various dates. There are some photographs of Smith with his family and two photographs of Smith and his horses, one of which is inscribed.
