Tourel, Jennie (1900-1973)
Scope:
The Jennie Tourel collection consists of photographs, correspondence, audio recordings, and other items.

Photographs in the collection all include notations on the verso identifying either who Tourel is posing with or the location of the photo.  These pictures show Tourel rehearsing, touring, and meeting various notables in the world of music; these include a series of photos of Tourel posing, traveling, and rehearsing with Leonard Bernstein.  Also present are signed photographs by other musicians, including Paul Warfield, Joan Sutherland, and a photo of Pablo Casals with a signed card.

Correspondence in the collection dates from the 1940s and 1950s, and primarily consists of letters from friends and acquaintances.  There are also a number of letters to Tourel from her agent, Friede Rothe, as well as a number of letters from John Whitbeck Clark.

Audio recordings of Tourel in the collection consist of several phonograph records.  Titles include Offenbach's La Vie Parisienne, Villa-Lobos' Serestas, Brazilian Serenades, Rachmaninoff, and recordings of Tourel accompanied by Leonard Bernstein.

Other items include several printed items promoting Tourel's performances and various medals and ribbons presented to Tourel over the course of her career.
