The Robert Wilder collection consists of manuscripts, printed material, and photographs.
Manuscripts include typescript drafts of Wilder’s novels God Has a Long Face (1940), Flamingo Road (1942), Out of the Blue (1943), Written on the Wind (1945), And Ride a Tiger (1951), The Sun is My Shadow (1960), Fruit of the Poppy (1965), and The Sea and the Stars (1967), among others. Also included are clippings from Wilder’s column titled “On the Sundeck” published in The New York Sun from 1936 and 1942.
Printed material incudes news clippings about Wilder, and book jackets for his novels Flamingo Road (1942) and Out of the Blue (1943). Also included are a series of articles titled “Chronicles of Ellis Island,” signed by Rudolph Reimer, District Commissioner of U.S. Immigration and Nationalization Service.
Photographs include a print of a scene from an unnamed play, as well as a print of Wilder and a painting.
