The Margaret Yorke collection consists of manuscripts, professional material, and correspondence.
Manuscripts by Yorke include drafts of novels and short stories, as well as unpublished work. Novels include The Deceiving Mirror; Speak for the Dead; Intimate Kill; The Price of Guilt; Acts of Violence; A Question of Belief; A Case to Answer; Counterfeit (unpublished); and many others. Also present are various notes for books and speeches; notebooks; and various drafts of lectures and speeches (1980-1995).
Professional material in the collection includes files of various items compiled by Yorke, primarily dealing with her relationships with her various publishers (1954-1998); these files include printed material, correspondence, manuscripts, and legal material.
Printed material includes files of reviews for The Small Hours of the Morning (1975); Silent Witness (1972-1973); Grave Matters (1973-1974); Mortal Remains (1974-1975);and No Medals for the General (1974-1975). There are also the published book jackets for Cast of Death, Death on Account, No Fury, Christopher, Find Me a Villain, The Hand of Death, and The Scent of Fear.
Correspondence files are also primarily professional in nature and date from 1977 to 1998. Along with the correspondence, they may also include printed material and photographs. Aside from the correspondence with her various publishers, notable correspondence includes a brief exchange of letters between Yorke and fellow-author, Elizabeth George. There is also correspondence related to research Yorke was conducting for various books, such as prison research for Intimate Kill.
