Zindel, Paul (1936-2003)
The Paul Zindel collection includes theatrical play manuscript material, as well as professional correspondence related to the specific projects.  There is also manuscript material for several novels written by Zindel, as well as manuscript material for his screenplay, Up the Sandbox, the 1972 film that starred Barbra Streisand.  There is also printed material in the form of clippings, newspaper sections, periodicals, and some printed page proofs.

The files related to Zindel's theater work may contain manuscript material, printed material, and holograph notes. The earliest play manuscript material is related to A Dream of Swallows, which opened and ran Off-Broadway in 1963.  The files for The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds contains original manuscript material, printed material, and original holograph notes. The play opened at the Alley Theatre in Houston, TX, in 1964 and opened Off-Broadway in 1971.  Other theatrical manuscript material includes And Miss Reardon Drinks A Little (1967 Los Angeles; 1971 Broadway); The Secret Affairs of Mildred Wild (three drafts. 1972); and five drafts of Ladies at the Alamo, which first opened in Los Angeles in 1977, followed by a run on Broadway.

Manuscript material related to Zindel's novels include drafts of The Pigman (1968); My Darling, My Hamburger (1969); Pardon Me, You're Stepping on my Eyeball (1976); and Confessions of a Teenage Baboon (1977).

There are Zindel's general files for specific out-of-town productions, and professional and personal correspondence dating from 1971 and 1978, as well as files on the Authors Guild, Zindel Productions, Inc., and financial and legal material, including contracts.  There are also files to Zindel's career as a High School chemistry teacher on Staten Island.  

Awards include a Doctorate degree from Wagner College along with a corresponding Commencement Program (June 3, 1962.)  There are also certificates for Zindel's Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the New York Drama Critics' Circle Award, both in 1971, for The Effects of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds.
