Phillips, Carl (1959- )
The Carl Phillips collection includes manuscripts, correspondence, personal memorabilia, printed material, professional material, legal material, financial material, film and video, audio, photographs, artwork, diaries and journals, notebooks, and other material.

Manuscripts in the collection include various files of drafts and notes, books of Phillips’ poems including Riding Westward (2005) and As from a Quiver of Arrows (2006), many poems, essays, speeches and introductions, and poems and essays by others.

Correspondence in the collection includes both personal and professional correspondence dated between 1988 and 2009. Notable correspondents include Rita Dove, J.D. McClatchy and Helen Vendler.

Personal memorabilia in the collection includes many of Phillips’ awards and certificates including his diplomas from Boston University and Harvard University, a microphone, a wooden box, identification cards, a note of currency from Italy, and a collage on felt inscribed "To Carl and Doug from Dottie."

Printed material in the collection includes articles, reviews, magazines featuring articles by Phillips, programs for Philips’ award ceremonies and conferences dated between 1994 and 2010, flyers, newspaper clippings, proofs, posters, invitations, menus, book covers, booklets for various poetry events dated between 1995 and 2007, newsletters, and over 100 journals.

Professional material in the collection includes subject files on Phillips’ poetry and his partner Doug Macomber, as well as an address book, a grade book, lists, contacts, schedules, press releases, and Phillips’ resume.

Legal material in the collection includes an "Academy Contest" file from 1996, pub contracts dated between 2003 and 2005, and various book contracts, copyright agreements, and publishing agreements dated between 1994 and 1999.

Financial material in the collection includes receipts, tax forms, royalty statements, and pay stubs dated between 1992 and 1998.

Film and video in the collection includes VHS tapes featuring the National Book Awards from 2005, poetry in the US, and Phillips at Left Bank Books of New Hampshire in 2001.

Audio in the collection includes cassettes on "The Poet + The Poem from the Library of Congress" and "Bookworm, Carl Phillips," as well as a compact disc titled "Cave Canem Intro."

Photographs in the collection include prints of Phillips at home, with his family, and with people such as Hillary Clinton, Bill Clinton, Kathy Bates, and others. Headshots and a baby photo are also included.

Artwork in the collection includes various ink sketches and Chinese calligraphy by Phillips dated between 1994 and 2006, and a pencil sketch by Evelyn Twitchell from 2001.

Diaries and journals in the collection include two day-calendars with notes from 1999 and 2002.

Notebooks in the collection consist of fourteen notebooks including poem drafts and diary entries, dated between 1992 and 2000.

Other material in the collection includes a medical insurance statement from 1994, a yearbook titled the "Class of 1981 Harvard-Radcliffe Freshman Register," posters, and oversized photographs.
