McKeen, William (1954- )
Scope:
The William McKeen collection includes manuscripts, photographs, and audio recordings, as well as some correspondence and research material filed with the manuscripts.

Manuscripts in the collection include drafts of articles and books.  Books include The Beatles: A Bio-Bibliography (1989); Bob Dylan: A Bio Bibliography (1993); Rock and Roll is Here to Stay (2000, includes research material and notes); Outlaw Journalist: The Life and Times of Hunter S. Thompson (2008, includes correspondence, printed material, notes, and photographs); Highway 61: A Father-and-Son Journey Through the Middle of America (2008, includes correspondence and printed material); and Mile Marker Zero: The Moveable Feast of Key West (2010, includes notes, notebooks, and photographs).  Also present are drafts for shorter articles on Dylan's Highway 61 Revisited, Elvis, and student dissent at the University of Oklahoma.

The collection contains some photographs related to the books Outlaw Journalist; Mile Marker Zero; and Tom Wolfe.  The photos for Outlaw Journalist consist of images of Hunter S. Thompson and his friends (2005-2007), including David Amram, Jimmy Buffet, John Cusack, William Kennedy, Larry Kramer, Thomas McGuane, Jack Nicholson, Ralph Steadman, Jann Wenner, and others.


Audio in the collection includes cassette tapes of interviews with subjects appearing in Mile Marker Zero (2005-2006); compact discs related to Outlaw Journalist and Rock and Roll Is Here to Stay; and phonograph records related to Rock and Roll Is Here to Stay.
