Pepin, Jacques (1935- )
The Jacques Pepin collection includes manuscripts, correspondence, personal memorabilia, printed materials, professional materials, financial materials, film and video materials, audio materials, photographs, artwork, electronic media materials, and other materials.

Manuscripts in the collection include articles, various recipes such as “Howard Johnson” recipes and others from magazines, proofs and drafts of many of Pepin’s recipes for his cookbooks, both volumes of Pepin’s The Art of Cooking (1987, 1988), two proofs for The Apprentice (2004), materials for Pepin’s show Fast Food My Way, materials for various of Pepin’s other cookbooks, various recipes, dated between 1992 and 1995 and undated, essays written by Pepin, the transcript for an interview of Pepin with Judith Weinraub from 1997, a speech on consolidated food services, and a selection of essays written by others.

Correspondence in the collection includes both personal and professional correspondence, consisting mainly of postcards dated between 1915 and 1985, fan mail, and professional correspondence. Material is dated between 1915 and 2012; notable correspondents include Michelle Obama, Nancy Pelosi, and Dannel Malloy.

Personal memorabilia in the collection includes many of Pepin’s awards, a large number involving the James Beard Foundation, and other materials including Pepin’s baby teeth, Julia Child pins, table cards and medals, Pepin’s doctoral degree from Johnson and Wales University from 2010, and Pepin’s transcripts from Columbia University dated between 1959 and 1970.

Printed material in the collection includes articles and clippings about Pepin, catalogs dated between 1974 and 1998, magazines including Merci Julia! and Bon Appétit dated between 1965 and 2012, invitations to culinary events dating between 1950 and 2011, and various flyers, booklets, programs, press releases, clippings, and photocopies.

Professional material in the collection includes a “Catalogue Michael Williams” file dated between 1993 and 1996, menus by others dated from 1950 to 2012, some undated, hundreds of business cards, notes, press kits, datebooks and calendars dated between 1989 and 2010, and nearly fifty subject files.

Financial material in the collection includes reimbursements, royalty statements, receipts, invoices, tax forms, check stubs, spreadsheets, and other general financial materials. Material is dated between 1985 and 2005.

Film and video in the collection are extensive, and include a large selection of VHS tapes such as Chez Pepin, Jacques Pepin Celebrates! Fast Food My Way, Jacques Pepin’s Cooking Techniques, Today’s Gourmet with Jacques Pepin, and many other tapes. Many DVDs are also included, featuring cooking demos, several of Pepin’s holiday celebrations, episodes of Jacques Pepin’s Kitchen Encore with Claudine and other DVDs.

Audio in the collection includes cassette tapes on Pepin, French culinary traditions and American cooking, Julia Child, and various other subjects.

Photographs in the collection include slides and negatives from Everyday Cooking (1989), prints for La Methode (1979) including alternate prints and transparencies, transparencies for La Technique (1976), files of negatives, general slides, and various rolls and contact sheets. Also included is an extensive selection of miscellaneous prints, featuring Pepin with his family, on vacation, in promotional photos, with the Obamas, and cooking.

Artwork in the collection includes a Christmas cards file, a box of stationary with cards designed by Pepin, menus designed by Pepin, hundreds of drawings of kitchen utensils and ingredients by Pepin, and an untitled children’s drawing.

Electronic media in the collection includes various CD-ROMs containing portraits and headshots of Pepin and various pieces of Pepin’s artwork.

Other material in the collection includes large items consisting of posters, clippings, desk calendars, artwork and page proofs of artwork, and awards and certificates, many concerning the James Beard Foundation.
