Thurman discusses the quest for spiritual security for which he provides a working definition: "I suppose by definition it means that a person has a sense of security when he seems to himself to have free and easy access to that which to him is important and crucial....Free and easy open access to that which is important and crucial in relation to which he has a sense of inner and personal stability." Thurman goes on to discuss the idea of belonging and inclusion as integral to security, whereas the feeling of being ignored is a threat to one's security.  Thurman includes personal anecdotes throughout.
